Title: Academic achievement of management undergraduates with reference tohigher educational institutes in kandy

Abstract: Despite the growth in the higher education sector of Sri Lanka, there is a problem with low academic achievement of those undergraduates. The study focuses on factors affecting the academic achievement of management undergraduates representing higher educational institutes in Kandy. The scope is limited to Kandy Branch of a Non state higher educational institute (NSHEI) and a Kandy based State University. The primary data was collected using structured questionnairefrom on a stratified sample of 65 higher national diploma (HND) undergraduates of NSHEI, 34 final year undergraduates of NSHEI and 75 final year undergraduates of a state university. As per the findings gender, A/L Result, A/L Stream, Type of Accommodation, following other courses and teaching style preference have significant impact for HND undergraduates of NSHEI. Previous GPA, Student Age and Relationship Status having a significant impact on NSHEI final year undergraduate’s. For state university undergraduates the significant factors are gender, previous GPA, quality of accommodation, lecture attendance, academic organization and professionalization.
